About Water4Power

Our Mission

Water4Power aims to create a collaborative, open-access platform that guides policymakers, government leaders and civil society organizations

in the transition from water-intensive to water prudent power production.

About Water4Power

World Resources Institute (WRI) is developing a predictive model that estimates reservoir water availability at least 1-3 months in advance using hydrometeorological parameters and reservoir water level data. This prototype, called Reservoir Watch, will help shift the discourse around energy security and power generation to integrate water risks in planning and decision-making for the energy sector.

Reservoir Watch will be developed using deep-learning technology; paired with historical and near real-time data. It will improve predictive modelling to map future water availability and energy production. This work builds on previous research developed in partnership by WRI India’s Water and Energy teams. Through this work, we aim to highlight the value of transitioning to renewable energy, shifting to water prudent power production, increasing water-use efficiency and improving water management in thermal power plants.

"Water is a key accelerator for India’s clean energy transition. We aim to collaborate with stakeholders and decision-makers in the power sector to analyze and prepare for future water scarcity risk and transition to water prudent energy strategies that reduce risks to people and the economy."

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

WRI India values and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion across all areas of our work and workforce. Integrating these values into our actions fosters a progressive and collaborative culture and can also enhance our impact. It is our responsibility to create a welcoming working environment for people of diverse cultures, backgrounds and experience to learn together. We are responsible for fostering a safe and inclusive workplace where questions, concerns and information about diversity, equity and inclusion are part of our ongoing dialogue and development.
